The Software Freedom Day this year was a big success at all levels. On 18th October, more than 600 people attended the biggest FOSS event in Tunisia which took place in Sousse. Like every year, Mozilla Tunisia participated in this celebration and stole the show.
A couple of days before the big event, the community took advantage of their members being all in Tunisia at the same time, by holding two productive work days. This took place in the Tunisian Internet Agency’s open workspace, where six mozillians spent their time getting ready for the SFD and the future events of the year.
The main subjects and sessions were about the community structure and how to mentor the new contributors. The idea was to target 4 principal contribution areas :
Making the contribution areas clear and simple will be a big help for those who want to contribute.

The event In true tradition of our community, we go to all events together, and the SFD was no exception. The team hit the road (with their little fox) to the Higher Institute of Technological Studies of Sousse – ISET Sousse where the event took place.
Eye-catching, colourful with lots of smiling faces, the Mozilla Tunisia booth had a lot of visitors. Whether people wanted to discover the Mozilla project or get the latest news about our activities, all ages and backgrounds came to visit. From talking about privacy, WoMoz, Webmaker, testing devices to holding a quick Firefox OS initiation session, our booth didn’t stop welcoming new visitors who showed their interest in joining the community.
There were plenty of surprises this year such as the interest in the Klif launch but also the curiosity to the project. I was beyond ecstatic to see young students who had already heard about Firefox OS and how they’ve began to know more about us as the years have gone by.
Our participation in the SFD was a great start and a big motivation boost for the team. We are expecting to welcome new contributors in the near future who will join us to make 2016 a year full of Mozilla and full of success.
